Overview

What shower head replacement covers — and why it matters.

What it is

Shower head replacement covers swapping the spray head, the flexible hose, and the wall outlet seal on any UK shower — electric, mixer, thermostatic or power-shower. We can fit a head you've already bought, or supply a suitable Mira, Aqualisa, Grohe or Hansgrohe replacement on the day.

Who it's for

Anyone whose shower has weak spray patterns, dripping after shut-off, leaking from the hose connector, or visible limescale that won't clear with descaling.

When you need it

Replace as soon as the spray pattern becomes uneven, the head starts dripping after the shower is off, or the hose splits or kinks permanently. Limescale-clogged heads waste hot water and make you stand in the shower longer.

Why professional matters

A wrong-spec head on a low-pressure system gives you a trickle; a wrong head on a power-shower can damage the pump. A qualified fit gets the spec right, the seals correct, and the connections tight.

What happens if you ignore it

The cost of waiting.

A failing shower head is a small fault with a large daily cost. Every shower takes longer, uses more hot water, and leaves the tray and screen with limescale streaks that get harder to remove the longer it goes on.

Risks if left unrepaired

  • A leaking hose connector drips behind the shower screen, rotting the seal and eventually the wall behind the tray.
  • Limescale-clogged heads force higher pressure through fewer jets, stressing the hose and the shower valve itself.
  • Wrong-spec heads on power-showers can starve the pump and shorten its life by years.
  • A weeping wall outlet behind the tile is invisible until the wall fails — and then it's a tile-out repair.
  • Mould forms quickly behind a permanently damp shower head — a hygiene issue, not just a cosmetic one.

Common DIY mistakes we see

  • Buying a 'rain head' for a low-pressure system — it will deliver an underwhelming trickle.
  • Over-tightening the hose connector and stripping the brass thread on the valve outlet.
  • Replacing only the head while leaving the perished rubber washer in the hose — guaranteed to drip again within weeks.
  • Descaling with neat acid that ruins chrome and pits the spray plate.
  • Trying to free a stuck hose nut with mole grips and crushing the connector.

Our process

A five-step system — every job, every time.

  1. 1

    Inspection

Check water pressure and flow rate, identify the shower type (electric, mixer, thermostatic, power) and confirm the new head is compatible.

  2. 2

    Isolation

Isolate at the shower service valve or the property stopcock. Tray and screen protected before work begins.

  3. 3

    Remove & Fit

Old head, hose and seals removed. New components fitted with fresh fibre or rubber washers, never over-torqued.

  4. 4

    Pressure Test

Shower run hot and cold for 5+ minutes at full flow. Every joint visually checked and dried, then re-checked.

  5. 5

    Clean & Demonstrate

Tray and screen wiped, descaler residue cleared, new head demonstrated, written 12-month guarantee provided.

Benefits

What you actually get.

  • Hot Water Use Drops

An efficient head with a strong spray pattern shortens shower time — directly cutting hot-water cost.

  • Better Spray, Less Limescale

Modern silicone-nubbed heads wipe clean with a thumb — no more weekend descaling sessions.

  • No More Drips

A correctly fitted hose and wall outlet stops the post-shower drip that's been staining the tray.

  • Right Spec for Your Pressure

We measure your dynamic pressure before recommending a head — no underwhelming rain showers on a low-pressure combi.

  • Tidy Fit

Old parts removed, packaging taken away, area left cleaner than we found it.

  • 12-Month Guarantee

Every connection we make is covered for a full year on workmanship.

In detail

The technical detail behind a proper shower head replacement.

Shower heads look interchangeable. They're not. The right replacement depends on your shower type, your water pressure, and the wall outlet thread.

Electric showers

Electric showers run at relatively low pressure (cold mains feed only). They need a head rated for low flow — typically a single-spray, fine-jet design. Heavier rain heads will give a trickle and frustrate the user.

Mixer showers (gravity-fed)

Older properties with a hot-water cylinder and a header tank run at gravity pressure — usually 0.1–0.5 bar. These need heads designed for low pressure, often with a flow-restrictor removed. We measure the dynamic pressure on site to confirm the right spec.

Mixer showers (combi-fed)

Modern combi-fed mixers run at mains pressure — usually 1.5–3 bar dynamic. Most modern heads work well; rain heads and multi-spray heads are perfectly viable here.

Power showers

Pump-assisted showers boost pressure to 3+ bar. Almost any head works, but we match the head's max flow rate to the pump spec so the pump doesn't run continuously trying to maintain pressure.

Thermostatic shower valves

If the valve itself is leaking or unstable, replacing only the head won't fix the issue — the cartridge inside the valve needs servicing or replacement. We check this on the diagnostic visit and quote separately if needed.

Hose, seals and wall outlet

We always replace the hose and the fibre washers as a set — never re-use. The wall outlet itself is checked for thread damage and re-PTFE'd properly. A £6 washer makes the difference between a tight fit and a slow weep.
